Has anybody had the problem whereby their idle drops down and up while the air con is on. This is causing the car to stall sometimes as we brake to a stop. Thanks.

it shouldnt be enough to make it stall. but it is common for the A/C to slightly lower the RPM and Voltage.

The problem causes the revs to drop probably 500 for a couple of seconds, then jumps up again

I also have this problem when braking to a stop. The truck will idle down to like 400 rpms and act like it's gonna cut off. Help?

I was waiting at a stop light once and I felt the truck start to shudder. I instantly look at the RPM gauge and see it drop to below 500RPM. It usually idles at 700. I really thought it was gonna die. It didn't cause the RPM went back up. I just thought it was weird. Its only done it twice.

i had that problem b/c a vaccuum line was loose...check out your lines it could be that

mine did that. It would drop below 500 then rev itself up over 2000. When it dropped low it would shake violently. I took it in for SOHC recalls and when I got it back it was all better.

When the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) fails, it will cause idle problems. My '97 SOHC has done it maybe 3 or 4 times in the 4 1/2 years that I have owned it where the idle drops down to less than 500 and the X starts shaking. I have always just tapped the throttle and then the idle remains fine after that. I would say that if yours has only done it twice, then it probably isn't worth worrying about unless it gets more frequent or if tapping the gas pedal doesn't straighten it out. If it gets worse, then look at either the IAC valve or the lower intake manifold o-rings..
