When I start my truck (2007 4.0 v6) the engine revs high for several seconds before dropping back down to a normal idle. I can't put it in gear when it does that because it will jerk due to the high revs. Takes about 5 seconds to return to normal. Any idea what is causing this? It seems to be getting worse - revs higher and lasts longer now than a few months ago.
Thanks

Does it get cold at night in the part of FL where you live?

I've had similar issues in other vehicles, paired with the engine reving at red lights. It was usually due to an air leak between the MAF and the intake maniford. Pop your hood and make sure your air intake and hoses are on secure and there are no holes.

Also maybe a stuck egr valve

Thanks for the replies guys. I will check it out.
