Hi all, new member here. I have a 92 Explorer that needed a head replaced. My only option was to replace it myself with a rebuilt head. I managed to remove the head and put the new one on. Do I need to buy new pushrods? I did seperate them by order, but didn't mark which side was in the lifter and which was in the rocker assembly . Also, do I need to time the engine or anything after it is all assembled? Any help would be much appreciated

Well, I tried to start it up and no luck. When I turn the key, the rpm's jump up to 2K and come right back down and stall. If I pump the gas feverishly, I can keep it barely running. Does this sound like the head, or vaccum problem? I put it together quick, with no exhaust manifold gasket, tb gasket and I had to plug one of the vaccum (things) on the manifold because I can't locate the hose that goes on it. I know this is half ass, but do you think missing the 2 gaskets or the vaccum (thing) could be the problem??

Vacuum

Vacuum could definitely be the problem. Add to the problem that you probably have a good sized exhaust leak, and you have yourself a recipe for an engine with rough running or no running conditions.

The O2 sensors need the proper exhaust stream without leaks to be able to calculate fuel correctly.

The MAF needs to be able to meter all the air being sucked into the engine so it too can calculate the amount of fuel needed. If you have vacuum leaks, then un-metered air is getting into the engine and your MAF sensor is not calculating the extra fuel needed for the extra air coming in.

Get your gaskets fixed and find where that vacuum line goes/hook it back up and your problem should be minimized if not completely gone.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. BTW, sweet auto's you've got there. I had an 88 5.0 last year and traded in for my 01. 96 Mystic Cobra is a sweet lookin ride.
