93 explorer New fuel pump new fuel filter newish fpr that I know works fine. I was told the torque converter was the cause of my problems. I have used three tubes of instant shudder fix which has pretty much eliminated the shudder but my original problem remains.
Which is lack of power and hesitation (sometimes intermittent) I'm almost positive the solenoid is fine. I filled it up a couple weeks ago and to my surprise gas leaked all over the place, so?
Where is my leak? I tightened the filler neck, The clamp was a little loose but I don't think that can be the only problem.
Before the problems I always relieved pressure when I unscrewed the gas cap but since my problems started I have noticed it rarely relieves pressure? Please someone help I cannot figure this out!

Finding a leak is pretty easy - have someone fill up the tank while you're looking under the vehicle, and have them stop when the first drops drip down. Use a flashlight and try to pinpoint where the leak is, since it will be somewhere in the general area directly above where the drips are. Sometimes this is easier at night, and the liquid will reflect the light from the flashlight, making the source of the leak easier to trace.

It's probably the o-ring that seals the pump/sending unit 8 the top of the tank. You'll have to drop the tank or cut a hole in the floor to get to it.

The gas leak has to be the as already said the gasket on top tank since you recently done work there. I know when i did my pump I notice it was difficult the get the gasket to stay seated center in place. I used silicone gasket seal and glued my gasket in place to keep it centered when I put the cover back on. As far as your loss of engine power doesn't sound like a torque converter issue to me. You could have a leaking head gasket do a compression check of all your cylinders.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have been worried about the head gasket but have been kinda in denial. Is there some other full proof way to check it besides pressure testing? Usually you will have power loss, Coolant loss, White smoke in the exhaust. I do have power loss and I have VERY occasionally noticed a small coolant loss but never white smoke or any smoke for that matter. Also remember that sometimes it runs great! As if there was no problem at all.
