Just curious if anyone knew why Discount Tire would say:

"The vehicle you selected 1999 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER has unique tire and wheel requirements that need specialized attention. Please contact a store near you for assistance in selecting tires/wheels for this vehicle."

Is there something special different about the wheels for AWD? I'm not a noob to cars, but I am a noob to AWD. Everything I've seen looks like I just need 5 x 4.5" wheels. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Loren

I was just curious if there were something special I need to be looking at, because tirerack.com doesn't show anything for wheels either.

Pry just relates to the Firestone ordeal...

Let me rephrase this I guess... Will 5 x 4.5" be fine? Is there anything special I need to look for/at?

I'm trying to look at wheels from that site. Just trying to see what floats my boat.

Yes almost all 5 on 4.5 will bolt up sense no one answered you. Only thing you'll wanna check is back spacing.

Use Ranger as your vehicle. It should pull up bunch of choices.

Thanks guys. The site I was using was www.discounttire.com. If I can use 5 x 4.5", that's all I need to know. Again, thanks!

Yes, I deal with that crap all the time on my Explorers.

I have owned mine way before the Firstone Crises. Uhaul won't let you rent trailers, discount tire and other won't put any tire than stock that came on the vehical.

Stupid.

I have 17" Chrome Cobra R's on my Explorer with 275 Pirelli Scorpion Zeros.

They ask me every time I go to Discount how I got the wheel as they are selling me the tires. I say I bought them, but they always give me guff.
