Hi everyone! We are relatively new Explorer owners and are hoping the "Exploder" Name is just someone being dumb. I'm here in case I need help, and when that happens, I'm gonna ask!

Welcome To The Forum! Idk why but Exploder is often a nick name....before I even found this site I called my first explorer that I guess I thought of it because its close to explorer? Idk but they're good vehicles you will love it. On a side note the older OHV style some people had issues with blowing head gaskets so that maybe others reasons for Exploder but you shouldn't need to worry about that with your 4.0

as for the exploder name well i've always called my ex the "exploder" honestly it was due to underestimating the explorer and what they are capable of so when i bought it as a last resort and as i drove it and explored its capabilities i came to love explorers but my 1994 xlt will always have to be the exploder still LOL

The 'Exploder' name came from both the cruise control harness fires as well as the Firestone fiasco, and it irks some people when they're called Exploders...

Some jackass behind the desk at AutoZone last year when I was buying new pads asked for what vehicle, and I said 92 Explorer, 4.0, 4x4 (blah blah) he got this smirk on his face and was like pshyea exploder, thats exactly what they all do...explode.
