I am thinking of buying an 03' sport trac with 61,000 miles on it. They want 12,800 for it and it is in really good cond. I am just wondering if there are any major problems with these like the tranny or engine. I know the older explorer's had a big problem with transmissions and i just want to make sure I don't buy a problem prone model. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks :us::exp:

Welcome! I have an 02 with 44000 miles and I've had it since march. I havnt had a single problem. I love my truck!

Wow, that seems a bit high. I bought my '03 with 80 000 miles and in great condition for $8000.
Check to see if the doors all open from the inside and out. The power mirrors also need checking, other than that they are pretty bullrt proof.

That is kind of high. I bought my '01 4x4 fully loaded, perfect condition, with 56k miles on it and paid $9,700. They were asking $11,900. I bet if you work them on the price, they'll come down.

i got my 02 4x4 with leather int and sun roof, auto, with 43000 miles for 9 grand

Bought new 03, and now with 103K miles, no issues as yet and going strong!

I bought my 03 for 9 grand 70,000miles, my cruise control didnt work turned out to be a sensor, my rear window is intermittnent, i choose to live with it. I love my truck, but would like a 4x4 when I get back to the States

I bought an '01 with 20k miles on it, ran perfect until 83k when something went bad with the passengers side timing chain guideand cracked the head and valve cover.
I got a quote for a brand new motor with all the cam chain upgrades (the mechanic said there were over ten bulletins from ford about this issue) so it woulden't happen again +all the labor - $6000.
Granted I could probably get a junkyard motor and swap it for alot cheaper, but the fact remains the timing chain guide on the 4.0 is a heap of crap.
If you get a 'trac I hope this dosen't happen to you. Or anyone for that matter.
