My last remote fob for my explorer died today, so i am now unable to start the ex. As on the UK model explorers with single button remotes (96-97) they are fitted with immoblisers and alarms. The only way to turn off the immobliser/alarm is by using the fob, the immobliser automatically arms itself after 30 seconds, putting the key in the door, etc. turn on the alarm.
My main question is that if i buy a new immobliser unit at great expense i assume, which is located at the back, 'the rap unit', will this solve the problem. Thus allow me to program new remotes? As at the moment i can't program any new remotes and the system is triggered. I have tried unpluging the battery, removing fuses and removing the plugs for the immobliser unit 'rap', and it system is still triggered with the alarm going off and the anti theft light flashing.
The unit pictured here is different than mine, but in the same place, mine says 'immobliser', made in australia. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192268&highlight=rap+module+replacement
