If you still have your wilderness tires you need to look at the tread! I was rotating my tires this past weekend and I found a crack between the lugs in the driver's side rear tire that was 3/4" long by 1/8" deep. My driver's side front also had a deep crack starting where the tread meets the sidewall. These are the tires that Firestone said were OK! Needless to say I just had them replaced with BFG AT's today and I should be receiving a check from Ford in about 6 weeks for the cost of the tires. I live in Wisconsin and it has been in the 80's and 90's for the last month but I imagine it could possibly be worse for you guys in the hotter climates. My suggestion, get your tires replaced while someone is offering to pay for them.

How could those tires have gone so wrong...

Hey 93eddiebauer,
How many miles did those tires have and what infation pressure do you run? I have a set of the 16" wilderness AT (also the ones that were not origionally recalled) and now they have about 10,000 miles. Theya re only a year or two old so I wasn't too worried about them and figured I'd just wait until the tire place gets tires that Iw ant. If yours were fairly new, then I'll be more worried and replace them even if the tire place doesn;t have the tires I want.

Travis, i had the same tires back in March, and by June, similar cracks had appeared on 3 of the tires. The tires that were on there were brand new. Seems that mileage does not affect the state these Wilderness tires are in. Haven't you been able to switch those out at the dealership yet?

I could have had them switched at the dealership, but I opted to wait for the tires I want. I want the goodyear wrangler AT/S tire. I am still waiting for some to come in. In the mean time I regularly inspect my tires to avoid problems and keep them inflated to what I feel is the right pressure (with a fully loaded truck I had them at 40 in front and 42 in rear, empty truck they are at 36 front 38 rear) So far no problems (knock on wood). I'm leaving for college in 2 weeks so I am stil undecided weather or not I should still wait until the AT/S come in or if i should just settle for whatever they have. I will be doing highway driving to and from school, but it'll be cold out so I know the tires won't overheat, but i am not sure what I should do.

My tires had 30k on them and I kept them at 32psi.
