Hey guys,

Not to sound like some people we know but I've found some new information out about the SOHC spark plugs and replacing them.

First, they are not the same as the OHV spark plugs!!

Second, autozone lists them as being it was exactly the same. They are wrong. So wrong that I went as far as installing a set in my new SOHC and it was horrible. Pinging set in right under boost.

Autozone doesn't even list the correct plug for the SOHC.

The difference is in the length. The SOHC spark plug is about 1/4 inch longer then that of the OHV. Yes the OHV plug will fit but it won't operate properly.

The stock number on the SOHC plug is AGSF34FP, for those looking for a step colder plug AGSF24C's or NGK tr5-1's.
Be sure to check when you goto replacing them as to the lenght being the same as the ones your taking out. If not immediatly return them as THEY WILL NOT WORK and could possibly do harm to your engine!!

Good to know, thanks.

Is 1/4 inch length really that important? what if you buy a brand that doesnt have specific fit and have to cut them to length?

How do you cut spark plugs to length?

Cut spark plugs to length?

Good Info Doug!

sorry!

sorry i read that wrong! well it is 12:30 here.....
i thought you were talking about wires; then i took 2 seconds and read it again....

yea i guess 1/4" is a lot in a spark plug.

**just got mail- someone probably just replied already noting my mistake

Autozone near me has the Double platinum

MOTORCRAFT O.E. DOUBLE PLATINUM 605PP $3.99

As you state in your first post 97-00 are NRK #TR5's. In 01' Ford redesigned the combustion chamber and went with a longer reach plug AWSF34's which cross to a NGK part number TR5-1's. The -1 on the end of the number denotes the added length of the new spark plug. In ford numbers the old 97-00 are AWSF32's the new 34 denotes the added length. Add any suffix you need for copper, platinm or Iridiums.

Hey guyz, i just wanted to add something...when i took the stock spark plugs out they were Motorcraft AGRF22P(LEFT), AGRF22PG (RIGHT)...and there not matching up with any of the part numbers u guyz have. The ones i put in are Bosch Platinum Part # 4205 and i checked it on the site and it had to different part #s for the sohc and ohv. so let me know if i have the right plugs plz....thank u...laterz

Yes you have the correct plugs in yours if you've crossed them with the A**F22's. They are a step colder then the new style SOHC's. Its only in 01' when they started using the 34's.

I replaced my plugs about 4 months ago. I got them from auto zone and the guy there said they changed the numbering. He gave me the ones for my truck, but in the owners manuall it said the were for th 5.0. I went back after I saw this and he told me ford redid all their part numbers. Is this true?J. I hope im running the right plugs. He used to be a ford mechanic and looked like he knew what he was talking about.
