That even though it states that here in aus your warranty is 3 yrs 100,000kms it really is 4 yrs 135,000kms this is comming directly from ford australia. They have stated due to faulty timming chain guides that they did not abide by the manufacturers 01M01 program instead the gave all aus X owners a "GOOD WILL" extension on there warranty , but failed to notify the owners of these X's. How do we know this? basically because we have been fighting Ford here in aus for 9 weeks trying to get them to abide by the 01M01, they stated they did not have to, because they did a good will warranty extension.
Dont know if this is any help but thought it was an interesting fact to let you all know!!!! maybe if you have had something done recently and been in this GOOD WILL time you can claim back on ford. We managed to get a $2500aus chain guide tensioner job fixed.

email us for more info if needed

i would be interested in any documented evidence to back this up we have to pay the extended warrenty soon and thats $1400
thanks m8

We dont have documentation because FORD aus never made it public, It was there way of trying to keep it hush hush. They stated they did this warranty so that they dont have to go by manufacturers TSB's / programs.

It is all true what we are saying we are even fighting it now through the fair trading association because X owners in aus should have been notified. Ask your local dealer about the Ford aus extended warranty. it is on there tsb sheet we have seen it for 97 98 99 but they did not say if it was for all models.

hjope this helps

they may have the problem sorted by now my car is actually a 2001 model but it was built in the states in september of 2000 so for the convienince of this bourd its a 2000 model confused???

I would still check, see if your dealer knows otherwise we will ask ours let us know. Because they did not say any specific model just that FORD AUS have done a goodwill extension on the warranty of explorers ..... so who knows.

i just bought a 97 and it has mad ticking when it first starts , the woman said she never got this recall done...and she bought the truck in 10/97. Should i still be able to get this fixed due to the 72,000 miles or 6 years, which ends in Oct this year

As far as I know if it is within the warranty period which dont quote me but i think it is 6 yrs 100,000miles well then you can because its still under warranty wether u are second third fourth owner.

so u should be able to do it through warranty

Even Explorers that were built here in September of 2000 are considered 2001 models. The Explorers usually start coming out in August for the next model year so your model year is a 2001 whether here or down under. The model year doesn't necessarily mean the year it was built. It's kind of like when I get my June edition of 4-wheel and off-road in late April.

The ticking noise at start-up is for the camshaft tensioners which are covered to 72K miles. The camshaft chain guides are covered to 100K. When they fail your engine makes a much louder rattling noise and it won't go away no matter how long you wait. In either case, if you have less than 72K miles on your Explorer, then you are elegible to have the work performed at no charge. The warranty transfers with the vehicle.

cool i just went there today and showed them the recall paper and it goes in on wenesday for the 00m12 i think thats it.....

still covered so thats cool. :)

thanks for sorting that model stuff out
i e-mailed ford about the extended warranty.
and this was thier reply:

Thankyou for your email to the Ford Customer Relationship Centre.

We have no record of the extension of the warranty on the Ford Explorer. You
may be referring to an extended warranty.
Can you provide any further information?

Thankyou,
