Improve Gas MileAge

Hey Everyone. I have a 96 XLT with a 4.0 and I need to find out some tricks to improve the gas mileage!! It is getting about 13 MPG. now but I would like to get it up to 17-19 MPG. I do pretty equal amounts of highway and local driving. I heard that a K&N filter helps but I am not sure what else. Thanks
