Hey everyone, I have a '99 AWD 5.0 Explorer and am looking to haul my project car around with it. I would be using a 20' trailer (possibly enclosed so it may be heavy, I haven't bought one yet) and towing a 3000 lb. car around. I've flat towed the car before, and the power was adequate, but it wasn't great. I can imagine it'd be much worse with a trailer.
So here are my questions...first off, is that type of load something the X can even handle? Second, would headers, exhaust, etc. improve power enough to notice a difference while towing? I really feel the X could use some more power anyway, so I've thought about doing this for a while now. Also, is there anything I could do to improve MPG while towing (and hopefully in general)? I got around 18 MPG on the highway while flat towing, but in town I'd be lucky to get 8. Thanks in advance!
