In A Bad Way

on my 2000 Explorer Sport 4.0L, my oil gauge flipped out and jumped out all over the place, now it just reads zero. I understand that it either reads pressure or no pressure, but now I think my engine is starting to knock. I would really like any help that is possible because this is my only means of transportation. in my mind it is the oil pump but i want to be sure because my time and money is resting on this. Thanks to all in advance

It's easy enough to hook up a "real" pressure gauge so you can determine what the true oil pressure is. You could buy a cheap one from Autozone or somewhere like that. Or see if you can borrow one.

change your oil and filter asap to a motorcraft filter. Can't hurt.

I wouldn't run it like that too long. But I heard of oil and filter issues causing that issue so its worth a try before a teardown. Since you hear knocking though, there could be other internal issues, but its good to eliminate the simple stuff.The pressure gauge as mentioned is a good idea too.
