Also, with as much play as the pictures are showing, the axle seal probably isn't doing any good, and i noticed the axle is actually rusting. May want to check the diff fluid.....
If it were me, I'd grab a couple circlips and axle seals from Ford and pull the front end apart. While you're doing that you'd be able to check all the other componnents for wear at that time; Tie rods, ball joints, hub assemblies, CV joints, axle bearings, and diff fluid (I'd change it out while you got it all apart).
Originally posted by Jsun I'm sure it's the exact same issue! Man were soooo close, only that you have spent alot more time and money into this.
Acctually I have been lucky that I am still under warranty with only $ out for an alignment and $50 deductible (twice) so well under $200. She has gotten new ball joints hub/bearing ass bushings, tie rod inners & outers
On monday it goes back to the dealer only because I refuse to pay another deductible. Front diff fluid is good and level was just changed about 5000 miles ago right before this problem was very very very faint. I am also going to have RE FIX my seat bolt recall that they "fixed" and is now about two inches fatter and hitting the door jamb when my seat goes back, not to mention the tupperware to cover the side of the seat is covering nothing and just plain looks like ass.
Anyone have any pics of the front CV and the space or play between the axle housing and diff. I am curious how it all looks inside and how it "should" be put together. I want ammo when I hit the dealer. I already copied a few pics of the CV ends that Jefe had posted on another thread.
I also plan to make them put the 99 AWD mounty they have roadside on the lift for comparison purposes. I also may crawl under their and snap a few pics.
I am wondering what sort of damage I may have to the cv and the diff. I have numerous front end related problems now that I can easily duplicate.
At 20 mph if I accel heavy or decel I get a massive clunk from the driveline. on accel I get a hesitation and a whining sound anytime I accel after slowing a bit, almost as if the front diff takes a sec or two to engage and you can hear it whine, esspecially noticible on turning corners and then accelling at 60-65 I get the same clunk on accel or decel, in addition when I push the button to turn OD off or on with my foot on or off the gas the I get a massive clunk.
My problems started off very very faint and are getting much worse, I am now also started to deveop a whine on the highway from the front and it just feels as if the front end is slowing the whole truck down at highway speeds and the engine is working a lil harder.
Thanks for the replies ....
JSUN if you get to take the rig apart please post back, and pics would be sweet if ya can
