Inconsistent "Check Charging System" on the message center.

I have a brand new battery in my 2006 4.6L V8 Explorer. When I run a System Check with the engine running, the Message Centre tells me everything is fine, however, when I run the check with just the key in the ignition, it tells me that I should "Check Charging Sys". Is this normal?

It makes sense to me since your charging system it not running with the engine off.

its working as it should, since the vehicle in the off position is not charging.
