Hi,

I'm having an issue with the interior lights above the middle sit on my '02 EB. The bulb in the middle turns on fine when I opne a door or when I use the dimmer to turn on the interior lights. The 2 bulbs next to it that are switched on manually do not come on.

I checked the bulbs and their fine. I took the whole assembly off and hooked up directly to the battery and they did work that way. I checked the wires coming into the assembly and the wire for those 2 bulbs has no power.

I checked the fuse 7 and 9 under the hood and number 17 under the dash and they are fine.

Should I be checking a different fuse or wiring connections to the lights?

My windows are tinted with 3% film so anything but direct sunlight requires lighting inside to find something. Thanks in advance for your help.

Anyone know about this? I did a search but found nothing.

I don't think the 2 switched lights are supposed to come on with the dimmer switch on the dash. You are talking about the second row switched lights right?

Sorry. I meant to say that they dont come on when I try to switch them on with their individual switches.

I would check all of the fuses. There is a loss of power somewhere you need to find.
This happened to my camaro and the fusible link was blown.
Was there any corrosion on the wires when you took apart the light assembly?

The wires were in perfect shape.

I checked the fuses that I think are the ones for this light but they are fine.

Thanks for your help, jacobl.

Your welcome and good luck:)

Do you have a multimeter or continuity checker? If so, connect one lead to each side of the switch, and see what happens... if the circuit's closed when you flip the switch, then test around with the multimeter to see if you can find a point along the wire going to your lights where you do get voltage, then follow it up until you don't get anything, and you'll find the problem in your wiring. If the circuit stays open when you test the switches, then the switches are dead.

Map Lamps?

Assuming your talking about the rear map lamps. Do the front map lamps work? Get in and close the door, wait for the courtesy lamps to go out, try the front map lamp switches. If front works but not rear then you have wiring problem to rear. They both work on same fuse and relays.

I'm not sure what fuse it is because Ford had early build and late build model Explorers in 2002 that are different in a lot of ways with the electrical stuff. They also had export models, and since you're in Mexico yours could be different again. My 2002 repair CD says it's fuse #17 in the Battery Junction Box, but the CD is only good for the early builds. You might have a look at that one.

Thanks for your replys, guys.

BWilliams: I checked the switches and they are working ok. The problem with checking the wiring is that it goes through the roof/ceiling of the truck. Maybe with a wiring diagram to see where the next accessible connection of that wire is.

rrgone: I checked the front map lights and they are ok.

Does anyone here have a wiring daigram or could tell me where else this wire can be accessed?
