fu*ken Incredible!!!!!!!!!!! The new 5.0 Cammer engine is unbelieveble, look at these specs, the new Mustang is gonna be one sick mutha f****er using a slightly more powerful version of this engine in the next generation.....:

FRT 5.0-liter 'Cammer' crate engine

Ford Racing Technology will revolutionize the crate-engine concept when its new 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine becomes available in 2003. Instead of modifying a standard production engine to suit non-stock applications, Ford Racing specifically designed the Cammer to be one of the most technologically advanced crate engines any manufacturer has ever offered.

This high-performance retrofit is an all-aluminum, overhead-cam, 4-valve engine that is a perfect repowering upgrade for vintage Mustangs, street rods, and classic truck projects.

According to Ford Racing Technology engine engineer Andy Schwartz, “The 5.0-liter Cammer delivers a healthy 425-430 horsepower at 6700 rpm. The torque curve peaks with 370 foot-pounds at 4000 rpm.”

The 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine is based on the SVT Mustang Cobra’s 4.6-liter 4-valve V-8. However, the crate version has several unique qualities and components, including:

Larger cylinders (94mm vs. 90.2mm) for 5.0 liters of piston displacement
Flanged cylinder liners
Reinforced crankcase web areas
Forged pistons
11.0:1 compression ratio
Ported heads
Higher-lift cams (12mm vs. 10mm)
Beehive-shaped valve springs to accommodate the higher lift
Modified roller-finger followers
Multi-layer steel-insert head gaskets
Higher-flow fuel injectors
3-piece cast-magnesium variable geometry intake manifold
Higher-flow, dual-cone-spray fuel injectors
The 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine will be shipped with a stock Mustang Cobra oil pan and exhaust manifolds. Installation will be eased substantially by a choice of six different 4.6-liter 4-valve modular wiring harnesses being created specifically for the 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine.

“We intend to grow the interest in overhead-cam technology,” said Dan Davis, director, Ford Racing Technology. “This is the future for tuners, project-vehicle builders and aftermarket car and truck enthusiasts. There’s no reason why a crate engine can’t start and perform as well in an aftermarket setting as the engines in production automobiles and trucks do. The 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine will provide top performance, a slick underhood appearance and excellent driveability without the hassles attached to carburetors and distributors.”

So this is gonna be available next year 'eh? Pretty sweet, but what are they gonna put it in? I suppose the cobras....not the GT's or anything....?

Hopefully this will be the Cobra engine, and the GT will get the N/A DOHC. Ford needs to kill the SOHC and never speak of it again. DOHC is the way to go :) :D

no, no guys. this is gonna be a "crate" engine. its use will be for engine swaps and such. you can replace your existing stang motor with it, or truck motor, or get a junkyard tranny of your choice and put it in a hot-rod etc. etc. its not replacing anything in ford's current lineup.

the next Mustang is going to use a cammer 5.0, they are looking for at least 400hp n/a, their going to use a version of this engine, but not the same specs, the GT should have a little more torque. thas why I said next Mustang, cause the engine is going to be based off this one.

can you imagine what the 5.0 cammer engine sounds like at 6700rpms!!!:eek:

any prices on this engine? and would it fit our X?

for a "cammer" 5.0 crate I would guess somewhere between 2,000-4,000 as it's a pretty high tec motor maybe even more.

but I don't think it would fit in a 1st or 2nd gen Explorer scince it's based off the 4.6 which is already too wide to fit in a 2nd gen. It would most likely fit in a 3rd gen though b/c theres enough room under the hood even with the 4.6 sohc V8.

hmmmmm.....now I'm thinking about holding off the charger mods and other stuff when I get my 03' 4.6 Mounty and waiting for this crate engine:eek: .....It would put out some sick friggen numbers with some other mods and a charger, damn.

& 11.0:1 Compression. That is high, I guess no blower for it either.
it shouldn't be that much bigger than a dohc 4.6 from the Cobra, but the 4.6 is already too wide to fit into a 2nd gen explorer or Sport.

it has high compression when the ship it being N/A, but you could change it very easily to slapp a charger on, and I'm sure if you order one to be built you could have them lower it some.

I'm drooling right now, trying to figure out what a dohc 5.0 would sound like making 430 hp at 6700rpm, oh..my..god..

I'm seriously thinking about waiting for this crate engine instead of slapping on the KenneBell twin-screw charger and other stuff on an 03' 4.6 Mounty. Lower the compression a little, a little tweaking, slapp on a KenneBell or maybe a Vortec...and say HOLY **** lol, it would put out some sick numbers considering their are plenty of 4.6 dohc Cobras putting out between 500-600rwhp.

I can see it now, 5.0 dohc engine, running an offroad x-pipe and dual Magnaflows or an offroad h-pipe and dual Flowmasters and some long tube headers........

Where have oyu heard this? From what I have heard from both Marketing and Finance presentations, it is going to still be the 4.6L.

its gone back and forth about 4.6 or the new 5.0 in the next stang... I think at first they might throw the 5.0 in a limited edition car..then after a year or three put the 5.0 in the Cobra, DOHC 4.6 in the GT

fome stangnet and guys that work for Ford on there, theres a few execs that post there, they can't tell us everything yet unfortunatley.

They'll fase out the 4.6, one reason is the next specialty model will be a Boss 302 Stang on the new platform (from the LS sedan), they said in order to do a Boss they had to have a 302 engine 1st, scince the ohv 5.0 is gone, they decided to bore out and stroke the 4.6 modular engines, along with some other goodies, in order to have a 5.0 option/model like the Boss.

So far the confirmed next gen will be a 2005 model to appear in 2004, it won't be a 2004 to appear in 03' as they had said before.

Another Ford exec knows what the next model is going to look like, supposed to appear at the next show in jan. also I think, out of all the pics that have been posted or drawn up, he said one of them is basically as close to the model as they have designed. If they keep the pic that I saw, I'm definitley getting one, looks nothing like the ugly azz ones that have been seen in magazines ect. It looks like a cross between the gen. we have now, some Eleanor in it, and the 1st gen type of styling. It looks awsome and aggressive as hell IMO, modern yet has a definite old school edge to it.

here is one proto...

ummm... remember that WS6 i went and test drove? well, that car has the worst parts of that car and the worst parts of the current stangs all rolled into one! wtf is that ever fugly.

i've seen another prototype that looked really ricey too. lol. imo, the engines are getting better, but the stang's going down the crapper ever since the 93 model year.

i think the car looks cool, except the front end, which is just hideous, IMHO. just look at everything but the grill. lol

whoa, that is seriously fuggly, expo5.0 is right, looks like a hybrid ws6/mustang.

Tust me the one that they have pretty much settled on looks nothing like has been shown in magazines or all the other photos on stangnet. I'll post a pic of it, there are guys that are members on Stangnet that I have followed for like 2 years know, all the info they have given before has come true/correct, and another guy showed the model of the next mustang and the Ford guys working on that model confirmed it will very closely reseble it. They said look for it at the next Auto show where Ford will preview it. I'll post the pic, if I can figure out how to correctly.

Here's what they pretty much settled on what the next Mustang will look like: Absolutley gorgeous and aggressive IMO
Dead Link Removed
Nothing like that nasty Autoweek photo.

Also, I can post the Cad images that Ford released to the guy who Stangnet and Corral have pretty much gotten all their info from. Thats if ya want them...Gotta Beg:p

They said if you like that pic of the 05' Stang, it'll be worthwhile to go to the next show and you'll be very pleased;)

5.0 cammer engine

i go to the SVT forum alot nowadays. and we were talking about the cammer over there someone posted a link to a site that had alot of info on the engine. i am thinking that the price was about $8,000 for it. almost 100% positive. it would be awesome to drop into the new explorers. that would be a meanass explorer. and relatively easy to install too. pull old engine drop in new engine and minor adjustments from there. and with a KB twin screw on there it would be sick!!!! i would be really jealous about you then saleen if you got that done. of course unless you got alot of money right now i will have already surpassed that number by then i hope. i got what like a year or so? i think that is doable. too bad i dont like the look of the new explorers as much as the 2nd gens. mannnnn if they had the modular engines in my generation explorer i would be sooooo set. hehe. oh well. by that time i would be ready for a new vehicle again anyways. i would have the X paid off and probably get either a navigator or a dakota r/t with a s/c and a few other mods right away. depends. or maybe that harley davidson edition f-150. those look really nice. but i do want something a little more speedy though they do come from the factory with a s/c i believe. either way i am stoked to see what comes about in the next few years.
