2000 explorer XLS
Hello guys just a quick note this is the best site ever.
I have a 2000 explorer XLS, 4.0 4x4 when i drive this is I can hear a roar and it goes away when i stop, no change in a curve left or right. I was in the yard trying to turn around and then i noticed that when the front tires turn they slip like the front axle gears are slipping. I think that the hubs are going to need to be replaced also, they are on the list. Any diagram out there for the front axle, how to remove the axle? I have replaced the CV joints last week
Help Please
thanks charles

Sounds to me like your 4 WD is engaged.

I'm confused on what you're trying to describe as the problem. Can you please elaborate on this a bit? Please be as descriptive as you can.

thanks

Im pretty sure it is not, does not drive the same if i do engage the 4x4 - not the same as in auto

To remove your front carrier

No drawing is really necessary to do this.
To remove your front axle (carrier), you have to remove your CV axles, the front driveshaft, and one bracket on the drivers side. IIRC there are 3 bolts you have to remove and its out?? Easy to see what you need to do if you just crawl under and look for the aluminum bracket affixed to the carrier, securing it to the frame.
Might want to drain the diff fluid first. Just remove the bolts on the pan you can get to and tap between the carrier and pan with a screwdriver to seperate it. Get a pan under there first of course.

Hope this answers your question

You sure the CV's are seated in all the way?
