All - I have the scan tool noted in the title and it doesn't seem to retrieve the real-time data properly. For example, the fuel trims are all 100% all of the time. The O2 sensors all read some constant value all of the time.
Does anyone know if the problem is with the scanner, and if so, how do I correct it?
I can't believe that the values displayed can be correct since the beast runs great, except for a slightly rough idle.
Vehicle is '97 4WD, EB, 4L SOHC engine.

Thanks,
Dick

This is common on the '97s. There is no problem with the scanner or vehicle. Global scanners simply can't read them. My Actron displays -100% fuel trims, all O2 sensors dead, and no speed. Despite this, freeze frame will pick up the missing values while driving.

Below is a reply another member received from Actron.

"We are aware of this problem. This is a common issue when using a global OBD II scanner on some '97 Ford light-duty vehicles. It is a software issue in the vehicle (The same results occur on the FORD NGS tool if set to scan in global mode), and cannot be rectified. The tool would need enhanced scanning capabilities, which this tool does not. You would need something along the lines of a OTC Nemisys (wwwotctools.com 1-800-533-6127).

I have an Auterra Dynoscan - it shows correct readings for the fuel trims, o2 sensors, vehicle speed, RPMs, temperature, etc, on my 97 4.0 SOHC.

Also worked perfectly on a 98 5.0 Explorer, and a late 90's 3.0 Ranger.

I have the base version, not the Ford enhanced one.

BubbFL and WhitEngineering - Thanks very much for your responses, they were very helpful.
It's interesting that I called Equus, the manufacturer of the Innova scanner that I have, and he wasn't aware of any problems reading the data. I described what I was seeing in detail, but he was no help in understanding why the data displayed was bogus.
Go figure...

Regards,
Dick
