How hard is it to install all of these? Should I let a shop do it, or can I do it myself?

I think it all depends on the system. I know some systems that are made for non factory equipped cars are very easy to install, a few power and sensor lines and the siren and you're done. However, if your X came with an alarm, it might be more difficult if you need to disable the factory system. But then again, many alarms were dealer installed, it so happened mine came from Ford.

So I guess it depends on what you've got in there now, what kit you get, and how savvy you are. But in most cases except bypassing a Ford factory system, it should be fairly easy.

It depends on what kind of alarm you are getting, If you are getting a really good one, installing it yourself kind of defeats its purpose unless you have alot of experience.

Yeah, unless you really know what you're doing it could get a bit hairy... Especially when you crack open the box and see the spiderweb of wires in there that comes with a good alarm (sensors, power, siren, lock/unlock, starter kill, dome light actavation, parking light activation, and more). Its not really HARD, per-say, but if you make one mistake you could deepfry your electrical system, your new alarm, or both. If you REALLY want to, just take your time and make double sure that you are tapping/cutting the right wires. I've done it several times and am pretty confident now (that doesn't mean I like doing it), everyones gotta start somewhere. Good luck!

Have a Pro do it. I have been doing it for over 13 years. If you do a remote start and do not power everything up you can do some damage to your car. You need to find the correct place for a tach signal. If its just a alarm you can give it a try, but if a customers bring me a alarm that is not new in the box I will not install it.
