Install of a new HU

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello, everyone here my name is kevin.
I'm just going to jump right in and ask a question.
I have a 2001 ford explorer sport which I just removed what I think is the oem radio.
it is a pioneer double din unit.
removing it from the ford wiring harness which has 3 physical connectors on it matched to the 3 connectors on the pioneer
my problem is I got a aftermarket kit that is supposed to be compatible with this vehicle but it has only one connector.
i'm trying to put in a sony xav-601bt .the front of the adapter has a plug-in connector, the other side of course has the wires needed to connect to the head unit. I feel like I am missing a step here.if I can get any advice or solutions to this dilemma, I will be so grateful to anyone who can help me. excuse my writing as I am only using one hand.

thanks in advance for your input.

Hey Kevin. I just replaced a stock radio in an 06. I had the same thing, the stock does have 3 harness ports on the back, and the kit only comes with one.

If you look at the primary harness, it includes everything you need to run the stereo. The other harnesses (I assume) are vehicle integration functions, such as light dimming, delayed turn off until the door opens, etc... The primary harness will have all the speeaker wires, switched ignition power, constant power, ground, power antenna etc... Everything you need.

After mine was installed I did lose some functions like the dimming whn the lights come on, the radio now shuts off when I turn the truck off. The OEM stayed on until I opened the door.

Hope that helps.
