Has anyone tried to install a cd player below the dash? I mean the area underneath where the a/c controls are? It looks like it is a perfect area but I would have to cut out the diameter for the sleeve to fit and then insert the cd player but I didn't know if it would have enough depth or if their was anything behind it.

I'm not sure which area your talking about. You mean directly under the controls or in the center console under the ac controls. Also why are'nt you able to use the stock area? But anything is possible chances are that if you want it to look nice you may have to fiberglass alittle and move some stuff around.

i have done it to my explorer.....01 sport....i don't think you could mount it horizontally though...at least not without making it difficult to see the screen and press the buttons. I mounted mine at a 45-60* degree angle. This way i can still see the display and it clears my computer which i have hidden in there. I have a carputer so space was limited. It was either angled that or in the headliner where the dome light is. Just grab a dremel, pull out the piece you need to cut, take the "cage" that the CD-player locks into and make an outline with a black pen for it. Cut away and make sure the cage sits in there snuggly.

I guess I am missing the point of why you would want the cd player there. I mean are you going to have the factory and an aftermarket head unit in the vehicle. Why not just us the factory location? Not trying to be and ass, I am just not understanding I guess.

maybe he is doing something similar to me....and just simply doesn't have space anymore in the normal double din slot.
;)

I am considering the same thing. I have a avic-d3 in the dash but I want a seperate dvd player mounted in that location so I can leave the nav dvd in the avic.

Has anyone used this location in an 02+? Does anyone know if there is clearance behind it?

And yes....holy bringing back an old post batman.

No there isn't enough clearance behind the ac controls. The ac air box is right behind it. you would have to cut that out to fit anything deeper than about 4". I fit an alpine center chanel speaker in there though. Had just enough space to make it work.

I moved the ac controls into the center console

Cut all the wires and extended them

Wow that is beautiful. I am thinking of the area in the center console though, right above where the catch all bin is. Right where you have your volt meter, yet not in the bin, just above it.

Anyone know the clearance that area has behind it?

ohh ic I missread you'r post, You would have plenty if room if you did it in fiberglass. It would take the place of the catch all and cup holders though.
glass it in on a 30 degree angle.
