Hi all,
Right now i am working on installing my new electric fan and i have a couple questions about the wires. First, it says to attach the black wire to the ac compressor possitive lead and i am not sure which one is the possitive out of the two wires( one that is black with an orange stripe and the other is black with a yellow stripe). Second i bought an add a circut like aldive said in his write up but is there a place i can run the wire through the firewall or am i going to have to drill a hole/grommet?
Thanks in advance,
Travis

I will also be doing this mod soon. I am looking forward to seeing a write up, when you're done. Hint, hint. :D And lots of pictures!

Al,
I had sent you a pm earlier(not sure if you recieved it?) please let me know if you can help me with those 2 things... Also on my install on the first gen is slightly different, so far i have found out that my intake tube isnt going to fit due to the clearence between the fan...i think i am going to have to cut the tube down a little or do the home depot special ;)

Use a Voltmeter to determine which is the correct wire to the AC clutch.

You should be able to run the wire through an existing grommet.

Good luck ....

Al,
i have read through yur thread several times. In fact that is one of the main reasons why i will be doing this mod myself. I was just hoping that we could all get a writeup for a first gen OHV, seeing as our engine and X's are much different than your SOHC. But if anyone would be able to give us some direction it would most likely be you. :D

I think i will end up trimming the stock intake tube as i think i will have enough clearence with just trimming it a little. I will get some pictures of it up tommorow as my brother took my camera with him. I do not personally own a voltmeter so if anyone knows which one is the possitive lead please let me know(i will see if my grandpa has one next time i go to his house). I think i will probably also be drilling a grommet because i dont see one that i can fit the wire through. I could make a write up if you guys felt it was neccessary but it wont be much different than aldive's.

It would be helpful to have one for the first gens. i was planning on doing one when i did my install, but you beat me to it. :D

Alright so i got some pictures of it right now, it is really humid here so my camera lense kept fogging up(you can see that a little in the pics).

Top mount(i painted it and then adjusted it again which is why you see bare metal...)

Intake tube clearence issues...i can force it on but then it isnt at the right angle to go into the airbox...

Thats it for now, i have to run 2 more wires(and figure out the ac compressor wires, lol), 1 being the one coming from the fuse box and the one to the possitive terminal on the batter(with the inline fuse) and i am going to have to extend this wire to reach the battery(i dont understand why they made it so short?) The install will look much cleaner once its done, i just laid out some of the wires to get an idea of where i could place them. I am probably also going to be getting some wire loom for it...

Sweet!

Any update on this one?

I trimmed the intake tube, found and existing gromet and fed the wire to the fuse box through. I tested the fan and it works good for as much as i can test it(tranny is out, and im 15) I found the ac power lead(its the yellow and black wire on mine) but i have to get a new harness or make one(mine has a break somewhere). So once i get the ac harness(or whatever you want to call it) i can wire the last wire up, and i am going to get some wire loom to make it a cleaner looking install. I would get some pics of it but right now my pic host is down. As soon as my host is back up ill get some updates to this thread
