I want some extra light at my feet when I open the door. Has anyone does this? A standard 194 bulb socket would be just fine.

Can you buy sockets and wiring for 194 bulbs? And, where is the wire that is only hot when the door is open? That is the one I'd be looking for. :)

Thanks!

According to the manual the black/light blue wire is the one that is switched by the door opening. Should be able to find it comming out of either front doors.
There are a number of 194 light socketts available. Some with rubber bases @ 3 to 5 bucks ea.
The 194 bulbs are 5 watt bulbs. If you want brighter, 7 watt or 11 watt use Mailbu bulbs. They are for the low voltage yard lights. $3.00 a pr.

are those 7+11 watters available to fit in a 194 socket and where can they be purchased? home depot?ace?orchard?kragen????????

I just connected some neat underbody lights to light up the path under the truck when you step out of it and I conected the whole thing to the black/light blue wire that runs along the side of your truck (under threshold between the door and the seat). There is one wire like that on each side of your truck. I'm thinking about doing the same on mine with the lights under dash. Buy some chip lights at PepBoys or other FLAPS but use ones with higher wattage bulbs, higher than the small instrument 194's (there are some 21W I believe - turn signal 194's). Use bigger bulbs but make sure they fit inside the fixture.

Later,

Does anyone know if those black/blue wires are all connected in series, or are they paralleled out of somewhere? I want to know because I want to be able to switch all the door activated lights off and if I can just tap one of those wires it would be great!

Hey Dre..

What type of light did you use for the underbody and how did you mount them? And how did you run the wire?

Thanks!

Alec, Any place where hey sell the Malibu yard lights should have the bulbs. And yes they do fit the 194 socket.
About all I can think of for the interior lights is to look for the fuse that controls the interior lights and splice a switch into the wire, which should be the blk/lgt.blu., at that point. Know what I mean????

I would like to install the lights under the dash and the lights under the car, so when the door opens.. they both come on.

I just need to figure out a route from the bottom of the car up.. :)

The light under the dash sounds like a great idea. How do you envision attaching the socket under the dash?

Thanks....

Thats the easy part.. just drill some holes.. my problem is I want lights under my Explorer as well and I'm not sure how to run the wire up from the bottom.. or even how to mount it.

Might be easy for YOU, my friend.... I still don't see how to mount.

if there is a will there is a way my friend.

I installed my "under car" lights when I was choppind down my body lift. It was so much easier since I had my seats out. There was a rubber plug in the floor just in front of the driver's seat. I used that to route the cable in and attached the light right under it. Then you run that wire right to the wires that run by the door jamb and splice it in (attach to the black/light blue wire). Attach ground wire anywhere to the body (that's what I did).

Hope that helps. If you need help with that, come by next Sunday and we'll take care of it.

get neons.. they are miuch easier than what it appears most of you are saying, if you want lights under youre dash and car, go to www.streetglow.com order some 9" minis for under the front dash.. and a 4 tube neon kit for the underbody and your set. check my links, I've got some pictures, although the interior one is hard to get cos my camera doesn't pick it up, its VERY bright

but I bet you can't beat the cost of instalation neon -VS- regular. I paid $2.99 for each of the sockets I installed.
4 sockets times $2.99 plus tax and a little bit of wire and a few conectors.......

neons would be cool though...
lol

I really like the neon idea, How are the tubs attached? Anyone have pics?

Thanks...

the best picture I have of my floor neons is this:

they are MUCH MUCH brighter than this.. this is just a bad picture. These are 9" mini neons, the kit is about $40 local, $50 from www.streetglow.com and comes with 2 tubes and a transformer.. its rigged by default to a cigarette lighter plug, but of course you can wire this to any 12v power source with a switch. basically all I did was tie one side to some wires running under my dash on the driver side with zip ties.. ont he other I used a factory hole and some electrical tape, its a tight fit on that side, so a mini neon is the best you're gonna do on that side, I have the '95-2000 door panels.. the light comes all the way up to the top of my speaker grille at night.

I never thought it would look that neat....... I might even try it myself....... kind of reminds me of the "mood lights" in my Bimmer........ neat, no doubt.

Thanks,

streetglow also makes white neon tubes as well, it would make your trucks interior look like it was lit up with flourescent lights...uh oh im gettin ideas. another thing i have been lookin at is replacing my dome/door lights with white LED replacement lamps, they never burn out and should give an extremely white look

LEDs in the doors? where can I get something like that? I have cheeeeeesy looking blue ones in my doors right now and they look green next to my neon
