I will be pulling the Explorer with my RV, and purchased the Neutral Tow kit from Ford. I'm not able to find the connector that the indicator light is supposed to plug into. Anyone know where I can find it under the dash?
Well, I gave it one more attempt, contorted myself into pretzel and found it!

Glad you found it finally. I was in the same situation with my '10 Ranger. It was finally found against the upper firewall all taped up in a harness. I was able to just purchase a 12vdc LED and drill a small hole in the panel to mount it. Saved quite a bit from the factory kit (which is insanely priced) and then had the Ford tech flash the ECM.

Was it a single wire? I’m trying to get my 99 explorer ready so I can tow on dolly. Found a single blue wire with gray connector. I’m hooked an LED light to it since you can buy the kit anymore. Now my problem is Ford says they know nothing about programming so I can have a neutral tow.

I’m screwed.

Yes, it was a single wire... glad you found it. Now, have you contacted a different dealer?

No, I’m going to try and call done in Kansas City. Believe it or not I found the kit on Ebay and ordered it. I Ordered it for the programming instructions and sequence to put into neutral. I‘m hoping the Dealership here will be able to do it once I give them the programing instructions probably put it back on eBay once I get the information.

Thank you for replying!

No problem. I could've given you the instructions, btw 😉

The Explorer pulls very nicely behind my mh, but watch for wear on the outboard treads on the front tires.

Hopefully the neutral tow kit (which is suppose to be new and have the instructions)
will be able to direct my dealership in the right direction. It’s in the original box (old).

If the programming instructions are missing I maybe reaching out to you for that info. 😬

Did you get the kit installed? I bought my 2010 used and would like a copy of the operating instructions. Can you send me picture of the instructions please.

I haven't used this forum for so long I forget how to get pics uploaded, so here is the text from the sticker provided with the kit:

This vehicle has neutral tow capability. Always verify that a low or
dead battery condition does not exist when shifting the transfer
case into or out of neutral. Always apply the parking brake and
remove the key when the vehicle is in park.

When the transfer case is in the neutral position, the engine and
transmission are disconnected from the rest of the driveline and
the vehicle is free to roll. Make sure the vehicle is properly prepared
for towing before shifting the transfer case into neutral.

TO SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL FOR TOWING:

1. Securely attach vehicle to towing vehicle.
2. Start the engine to make sure that the battery is charged.
4. Place the automatic transmission shifter into NEUTRAL.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position (i.e. steering not locked).
6. Neutral tow light will initially go through a bulb check; then turn off.
7. Depress the brake pedal and press the 4x4 AUTO pushbutton; hold
both for 5 seconds.
8. The neutral tow light will flash; then stay on to indicate the transfer
case is in neutral.
9. Leave ignition switch in the OFF position and the transmission shifter
in NEUTRAL while the vehicle is in tow.
DO NOT DISCONNECT TOWED VEHICLE BEFORE PLACING TRANSFER
CASE INTO GEAR.

TO SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE OUT OF NEUTRAL AFTER TOWING:

1. Make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop.
2. With the brake depressed, turn the ignition to the ON (not START)
position or move the transmission's shifter out of neutral.
3. The neutral tow light will turn off to indicate the transfer case is out
of neutral.
4. Start the engine and shift automatic transmission to DRIVE to make sure
the vehicle is out of neutral.
5. If the battery is low/dead or the vehicle does not shift out of neutral,
set the parking brake until the vehicle can be serviced.

Are you happy with the system? Have you had any priblems with it? Does the odometer register miles when towed with the neutral switch engaged?
Thanks,
Bob

Works fine, miles while being towed are not recorded.

You did better than I did posting. I have the 2010 instructions in PDF but could never get it to paste or insert.
Its the same thing you have posted.

Forgot, to answer the question. No I have not had a chance to take it to the dealer to have the programing done.
