at the moment my 92 ranger has an open 7.5 rear.
My friend has a Trac-loc out of an older mustang for the 7.5 that I would like to throw in the rear of my truck for the winter...

How hard of a job is this...??? I know the ring needs to be removed and the axles slid out...... but how hard is it putting it back together?? Wile I need to make sure of the spacing needed between the ring and pinion? or if I put it back the way it was i should not have to worry about anything??

any help/tips/tricks would be great!!

Here's a write up for someone who wanted to put one in his '90 7.5 in. I just had my '87 BII's differential apart to rebuild the trac-loc, and I don't think it would be that difficult. You will probably have to take the time/have the patience to be sure to set the backlash properly, but I don't think it's difficult.

oh, and in a thread here about rebuilding the trac-loc, there's a link to someones writeup about rebuilding an 8.8" axle. having had both of them apart, they are almost identical except for the smaller size, so any information you find on the 8.8 will likely cross over to the 7.5
