The revoval went well, but tomorrow comes the task of trying to install the 4R55E and a new torque converter. Does anyone have any tips, methods or warnings? Since the last tranny threw codes all over the place, how do you reset the computer, or clear the codes? The old TC is still on the fly wheel right now, the exhaust will be loosened and out of the way and the battery is still hooked up. (I wasn't sure that disconnecting the battery would clear the computer or need to be reprogrammed).

TC still on the flywheel!

You took the easy way out! Well, it won't go in that way. The only thing you have to worry is getting the TC set all the way back into the trasnmission. You need to kep rotating it till it clicks in a few times. Distance from the pilot tip to the mounting face (yardstick across the front) should be almost a half inch. If things don't fit nicely, don't force them. Don't use the bolts to force it in. Polish and lube the shaft on the TC if you use the old one.

Flush the cooler. You need to make sure there is nothing in the tranny cooler or cooler lines that could cause problems in the new tranny.

How do I get the old TC off of the flywheel? I didn't really look too hard, but I didn't see a way to get any wrenches up behind the flywheel. Is there a secret? Also, just to recap, you're saying I need to put the TC on the tranny first, and install that to the engine? What clicks???? The TC on the Tranny???

When the tranny goes back in you put the T/C on the tranny input shaft. After the tranny is aligned up with the engine you rotate the T/C to get the bolts to line up with the flexplate.

The T/C is bolted up to the flexplate with 4 bolts. There is an access cover that needs to be removed to get to the bolts.

Make sure to have the alignment pins on the engine before you put the tranny back in.

This info is for a 4R70W but yours should be similar.
