My instrument cluster was missing the clear plastic over it for the longest time. It was scratched, so I removed for aesthetic purposes. It was fine like that until I took it to be washed and someone ran a rag over my speedometer needle and broke it off. No worries, I had a spare on hand. But I took it to the dealer to be paired to my car (it won't start if you install without pairing). They told me on the phone it would be a quick deal. Drop it off and they say that they are going to have to send off the cluster to get it reprogrammed with the correct mileage (34k vs 93k). It was my understanding that your odometer is recorded in the PCM, and you can program a cluster to read it that way.
If I do in fact have to send it off, is there a cheaper way to do it than the dealer recommended? They wanted to charge me $180 for the the reprogram, and an additional $150 for the cluster install/reflash.
And yes, I already called and *****ed out the car wash for putting me through all this. They couldnt do anything for me.
