I have installed a K&N pannel filter in my '98 SOHC Explorer. I also removed the intake tube from the front of the air box. This provides a larger oval opening into the air box. This was a quick mod and seemed to help. I didn't want to go to a open cone filter since it gets very hot in the summer in AZ and I would rather have the engine breath cold air. I have been told that Airaid and Volant Systems would look into making a cold air system early next year.
