Go with a K&N. You have an 03 V8 so you have a lot of intake options.

The V6 is more of a pain in the a** so thats why there are a lot of articles on that.

I figures as much, those are the options I want to know.... Where to buy what... and so on and so on....

Check out Explorer forum vendors first (check their discount coupon's too) If you can't find what you want then look on ebay motor's. There's the typical k&n, kkn etc. Once you have narrowed it down to the two or three you want then you can start getting some informed opinion's on those manufacture's

Yeah I'm looking for more of a what has everyone else done? Airbox mod? Cold air intake? Give it tigerblood (Charlie Sheen Reference)???

How much do you want to pay? And how often does she see the rough stuff? Start with the airbox mod and see what you think. Cost's nothing so have a go, then try stage 2 Which is very reasonably priced using spectre part's. After that look at the whole kit and caboodle either a k&n complete set up or a cheaper ebay version, both with the pod filter.

Not a fortune but I don't want to buy anything cheap.... Florida doesn't get too rough.... Have any "how to" or "where to buy" links?

search stage 2 airbox mod for the spectre intake parts list

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=103

here's the vendor's

here's ebay

As far as performance goes they are all pretty much of a muchness, unless you are going to do exhaust and big mod's to your motor. The kkn will work just as well as the k&n but you save $150.00

for the V8, I would look into the K&N...

Hey CALDWELL, have a shopping list for that stage 2 intake that you did? I don't want to spend the money for the full K&N kit right now....

Just did the airbox mod and I LOVE the new growl it has when I get on it....

What is this box????

Nothing in there mate, just a big box with nothing in there. The way it's designed look's very restrictive as it seems to be a baffle of some sort.

Will it cause any problems if I remove it?

No mate, you'll be right. I've taken mine off and all is good. Do a search for the stage 2 airbox mod (excellent write up by Caldwell) to see abit more info about it. Sorry but you can't just remove it unless you plug up the two holes that will be left in your intake pipe!!! I removed the whole intake pipe assembly when I did the stage 2 airbox mod. I haven't heard of anyone just removing that box. Just to clarify!

Will a stage 2 intake give me more/less of a growl then I have now? Also what kind of difference will my new K&N make when it gets here?

More growl mate and more whistle between 2k rpm and 3500 rpm. You probably won't notice a huge difference with the k&n until you open up your exhaust.

What do you mean "open up" my exhaust? And do you know where I can find the write-up for the stage 2 for my V8? or will the V6 write-up work the same? Sorry for all the questions...

That is a helmholtz resonator. Its designed to quiet the intake and engine. No issues if it is removed as long as you plug it up properly.

And open up the exhaust means to switch out the pipe to a 2.5" or 3" and get rid of the restrictive muffler and swap with a Gibson or Magnaflow muffler.

V6 and V8 intake on the 3rd gen are interchangable for the most part.

She's right mate. A new muffler will help to open her up (increasing the exhaust gas flow) plus increasing the exhaust pipe to 2.5" or even 3" seeing as you have a V8 (cat back exhaust) and the V6 write up will work the same, but you have more option's because of the location of your MAF sensor (just on top of the start of the intake pipe in your pic.

I think I'll just save up and get the K&N kit I found (150$). Hou much would a good muffler/exhaust piping cost me?
