Intake tube, why wont it work?

I tried to paint the blue ones that came with the tube and it didnt work well at all, They looked like crap. The paint just kinda bubbles up on them.

is there a way to make it turn down and make it suck cold air form underneath the truck? Can you make a custom setup or can you order one that does this?
