integrating 91-94 "X" AC on to 89-93 5.0

well, as summer approaches I figure I better start looking in to hooking up my AC equipment on my 5.0 explorer. Phase 1 involves installing a 3 inch body lift to give room for the Accumulator piping.
(I currently have a non-AC ranger heating box installed)

Currently, I have the Stock AC compressor that came with the 89-93 mustang 5.0 installed on the engine. I really dont want to use this compressor becuase the connections for AC piping are different.

Does anybody have any ideas on adapting the 4.0L V6 Air Compressor on the 89-93 5.0?
FYI: I am using a 92 T-bird engine w/ a mustang ACC kit installed on it.

If I rember right Ford used the same compresor on the 5.0 and the 4.0. I assume you are going to be using 134a. Might want to try to put the orgional Explorer compresor on the engine if it will fit.

if ford had used the same compressor, I would have all my problems solved. Unfortunately the 4.0 and 5.0 compressors are very different. (the way they mount and they way they connect to the hoses)

YEah I kinda figured that after I posted. Can you use the 5.0 hoses and tubing? I really can't help much. I don't know how your truck is setup now that you have a 5.0.

Well, after lifting the body 3 inches, it still seems like the AC is gonna be a tight fit. The EGR for the T-bird intake is right in the way of the accumulator tube and airbox. A may have to go back to Mustang style intake to get the is to work.

Anybody have suggestions or pictures of their 91-94 Explorers w/ V8 and Factory Air Conditionng still hooked up?

I plan on usinga shop in Tulsa OK. The guy there will take pieces from different vehicles and build a system to work.

No idea what the pieces are yet, have to get mine running first.

if I could find a place that could fabricate AC hoses and connections, I could get this thing to work. Priority number one is: Relocate the AC ACCUMULATOR....... That seems to be right where the intake comes out, regarless of Mustang or T-bird intake.

Anybody have suggestions on how to fabricate ac hoses?

The easiest solution to your compressor problem is a trip to the local auto wrecker. Aquire the A/C and Power steering pump bracket off an early '90's F-series truck with a 5.0L and then bolt on your factory 4.0L compressor. At the most you may have to get a different length belt but everything lines up perfectly. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would post one but instead I will just link to it instead.

Thanks for the tip! I still have the stock compressor and lines. The accumulator is still gonna need to be extended. (relocated) Have any ideas on how to make rubber AC pressure lines??

I have not seen any F-150's with 5.0 's around here. Anybody have any suggestions where I can get these brackets?

It may sound cheesy but any dealer installed system was simply high pressure hose and hose clamps. If this is not something you want to do then I would suggest Aeroquip hoses and fitting. Go to 'AN' style fitting to relocate the dryer. I may yet decide to reinstall A/C (not too sure yet) so I am looking into ways to modify the dryer to clear the engine without a body lift. I will keep you posted if I make any break throughs.

I really did not want to do a body lift! But, I really really need to have AC. (moving to PHX)

I was really not impressed with the curved t-bird intake. The EGR comes out right where the accumulator piping needs to be. After the Body lift, the accumulator tubing will be above the throttle body (intake) All I would need to do, is adapt a piec of hose to fit from the AC BOX to the accumulator, and I could make this thing work. (thanks to the body lift.) I will post pictures on my quest for AC. Currently I am running a Ranger Heater only box. On Sunday, I will be installing the Original Explorer R-134 AC/Heater Box. With the Body lift, I should have to make NO modification to the Box.

Speedfreak, the fittings between the accumaltor are all threaded fittings, so I am sure I could rig something up?
