Hi all, Iv'e just discovered the UK part of this forum...DOH!

I have owned my 2000 North Face now for 2 weeks and have already replaced the alternator and the intake O rings.

I have had an issue, albeit minor, with the car since I bought it. The light that shows there is a door open, is permanently illuminated. If you open a door, the car beeps, registering the door opening.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Also, are the spring loaded things by the rear tailgate latches interior light switches?

I have a couple of days off work now and was hoping to use them to get this sorted.

Thanks, oh and hello, I'm new here (Ex Lexus LS 400 owner)

Hi MIke and welcome aboard. Is the instrunment panel dimmer switch to the right of the steering column turned fully "up"? This also acts as the interior light switch - fully up, interior lights always on - fully down, interior lights always off. The in-between settings affect only the instrument panel lighting as per a normal car! You'll feel it "switch" both at the top and the bottom of it's travel. Hope this helps. GRoB

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, I should have said that shouldn't I.

Yes, the switch is in the inbetween position. If I leave it there, after a while whilst I'm driving, I can open and close the door and it works as it should. However, when I turn the ignition off and get out of the car, the interior light stays on (whilst I shopped in Toys R Us). Most of the time I drive with the switch fully down, as in interior lights off. After a while, I can switch it up one and then roll it so that the dash lights are as bright as possible. Then when I get out, I have to remember to turn them off again.

Wierd huh?

Hey Mike
Welcome
Whenever i have the pictogram showing it is usually the tailgate glass not shut properly. i have to slam it a little sometimes.

I have just been out and sorted this.

When I opened ANY door, the car beeped, with the exception of the rear drivers side door. This lead me to think that this was the door causing the problem.
Not wanting to pull off the latch, I cut the wires going to the door ajar switch.

Problem sorted.
OK, I don't get an interior light on when I open that door, but I have had to have them switched off since I got it, so the way I look at it is, I've gained it on 3 doors and the boot.

Thanks
Mike
