Interior lights questions

I tend to leave the tailgate open for extended times and worry that I will run the battery down from the interior lights being on. Has anyone installed a switch to shut the lights off while the rear hatch is open on a 91 explorer. Can I add a switch like the newer models have. If so does anyone have any pictures or wiring diagrams to show me the way.

I used to do the same thing with my 94 and all I use to do was just reach up and lock the latch a on the left side of the hatch by hand and then just unlock it by turning the handle on the outside before you close it. I do the same thing with my 08. I hope this helps.
