My 95 Explorer wipers work in low and high, but no intermittent speeds. I have changed the motor and attempted to change the switch.

Where is the operation of the intermittent wiper handled? Is there a relay or does the switch and motor handle it?

Sorry, I just did a search and found a trace covering the issue. FYI, the problem could be the switch or GEM (computer handleing non-critical functions).

I did buy a switch from the junk yard, but it appearantly it was the wrong year. The junk yard switch caused a conflict with the turn signal relay.

At this point, maybe take the switches appart and see if I can share parts. Or take another run to the junk yard. And as a last resort buy a new part.

the switch is packed with grease and it gets inside after a while and stops the switch from making contact....

Try this:
pry off the little black cap and unscrew the screw and pull off the black casing. Be careful, though because there are little pins that stick up and down from the stalk that enable the intermittent stopclicks. Don't let them fall out or you'll be searching for an hour. Pull off the spring inside the end of the switch and pull off the white switch thingie. If it's all full of gunky grease then that is your problem. Clean it all off with alcohol and paper towels then put it back together.

Thanks drummergirl
I did take the switch appart and swaped parts with another switch with the same results (no intermittent speeds). I noticed the grease and figured that it was necessary. Cleaning the grease off would be easy, I will give it a try.

I also have an ABS brake problem, I have ordered all the speed sensors ( waiting). This might sound strange, but would a bad speed sensor effect the intermittent wiper.

I forgot to ask how do you make out with Jeanne. All my family is in FL (Coral Springs & St. Pete) and they are loving the weather.

Cleaning the grease off the switch did not do it. I guess the GEM is the last resort. Where is the best place to get a GEM (General Electronics Module) other then the dealer?

Gem are dealer only unfortunately..... About $200 I believe
