1995 Ford Explorer 4d 4wd
Hello fellow enthusiasts, my name is Herbert Kahikina. I am 67 years old, retired and living near Prescott AZ. In May 2013 I bought a 1995 Ford Explorer for off highway hunting and fishing trips. I am contemplating modifications for better clearance, 3" taller tires, winch mounting and a towing package. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Welcome Herbert!
I would start by looking around in this section: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=97
including the the threads that are "stickied" at the top.
Read up on what others have done to the 2nd generation Explorer and why, and you'll be better able to figure out what you want.

Welcome to the site sir. There is all kinds of information available here that can help you make a decision on what modifications will be the most effective for what you want to accomplish. The following is how I think I would set up your truck if I were in your shoes. That truck should be able to fit a 31x10.50 tire as it sits. To get a little extra clearance in the front, you can have the torsion bars adjusted, this should get you between 1"-2" of extra clearance. For the rear, there are a couple of options, you could either get the extended length shackles for your leaf springs, or put an add-a-leaf in the rear spring packs. Either one should get you around 2"s of lift. For your application, I would be inclined to install trailer hitches on the front and rear of your truck and mount your winch on one of those winch plates that you can use with a trailer hitch. That way, you can use your winch on the front or rear of your truck. And you can remove it from the truck entirely if you don't need it. Agin, these are just my thoughts.

And good thoughts too!

The winch idea is how I am doing it on mine.
