Hello everyone. First time Ford ownership. Purchased a used 2000 Ford XLT 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive that is in fairly good condition. After Government Motors and Chrysler going to Italy, my next and future cars will only be Ford products. This car is for my daughter who is in college. I am afraid to turn it over to her yet due to a bad vibration that occurs during acceleration. Once I level out the vibration goes away. Engine seems to be fine and the vibration does not seem to be due to a wheel balance issue. Tires will need replacement soon (Michellens) but are in fair condition and all at proper air pressure. Found this site and it looks like a pretty cool place. I am handy and normally do all the work on my cars myself. Can anyone suggest where I might start looking?

Welcome to this forum! Check the U joints for wear, and the driveshaft for a slight kink.

Thanks. Can I remove the driveshaft and drive the vehicle to see if the vibration goes away? I read that this is possible. Would the U joints be an issue if the AWD switch is on auto?

Can I temporarlly remove the driveshaft to see if that is causing the vibration by driving the vehicle after taking it out? I read somewhere that it is possible to do this. Also, can U-Joints be the problem when this happens even when the AWD switch is on auto?

welcome
