Alright, my Ipod install is done....I have to warn you, it is not for everyone, but done for me, and to give others ideas what can be done with iPods and cars. No I did not do the install, my buddy does this kind of fabrication, and was stoked to do it and is now doing similar in his GTI.....

wow

wow that guy is good! i would love to have him make me one to fit a 5.6 lcd. that looks really good man if you dont mind me asking how much did he charge or would he charge?

That is f***ing slick! Nice work.

Thanks ya'll, I'm pretty damn stoked myself!

5.0Limited: Ya, he does a ton of cool things with LCD's. Before we decided on the iPod install, he wanted to do a screen there in place of the computer thing. Did and would charge are two way different things. Like I said, he is my buddy, and I hooked him up with some, and am doing the site for him (while learning) but basically I got off next to nutthing. I know this elaborate of a piece would have costed a customer around $500-$600 because of the fabrication and lighing the dock and apple logo, and there was some problem solving involved and he made the Apple logo himself (and that leaf is damn small). And then it would probably cost a customer another $200 or so for painting the other piece of the console and the piece around the radio Ever try to sand off that rubbery coating Ford puts on those pieces? I did the radio piece and the other and it took around 5 hours! But really his hourly charge is a little too low if you ask me, and he is highly sought after here in Atlanta. Hell, he just gave fabrication demo's at CES last week! But if you are near here or have some questions for him, email him on the link on the index page of the site.

great i am in atl all the time. i go to school in tallahassee and my family lives in atlanta. i have been reading all ove this site and have got some good ideas just dont know how hard it would be to make such a console. do you know how much it would be for the lcd. i really dont need the comp in there anyway. let me know

For the GTI you can get a bracket that mounts to the dash to the right of the radio. There are both aftermarket and VW brackets for this. It's not nearly as slick, but works well and holds the iPod within easy view and reach.

I have seen that thing Alec, and it can be a solution for some, but it sure as hell won't charge and play the iPod (without cables running around of course)...you have a GTI right? I think the place he is going to do his used to be the ashtray (behind the shifter, it has a sliding door over it or something?) and he said that should actually be quite easy.

5.0, Email him direct and find out where he will be next time you are in town and stop by his work to price out the products and get a labor quote. He'd be stoked to do it.
What I did was i bought that console piece off Ebay, but I bought the stock one with the two pockets, no computer, so when i sell the car I could put the computer back in.
I think it would be slick though to just put that lcd right behind the plastic or just remove the plastic and bondo match it right up to the edges. Ohhhhhh, you gotta do something with this!!!

oh Alec, if you are on vwvortex, maybe you saw the sirius install he did in that ashtray, or the boost gauge piece he fabricated??

...or the radar in the rear view mirror....

Seen all those :D Just don't know if the ipod will fit there, or if it will be readable.

It will....it will just be a dock fabricated in there
