Does anyone have any pictures of iPod installations in their Explorer? I've got the Neo Ion for a connection, and it works great, but I still don't know what the best way to mount the iPod in the car is.

Ideas??

I initially installed my ipod to the head unit with an ipod2car converter. This worked pretty well. When I put in a new Alpine HU, I installed it using Alpine's converter. The Alpine install was FAR superior in my vehicle. The HU boosts MP3s and makes them sound like CDs.

i have an "aux in" in the back of my HU so i just wired it to there and made the cord run behind the dash and ran it out right above the vent on the left side of my steering wheel. (1st gen) then i found this thing for like 10 bucks at Comp usa that clips into the a/c vent and cradles your ipod. its adjustable for whichever size you have. so now my ipod is right in front of me so i can see it easly with out getting distracted from the road. its actually quite nice.

I mounted the pioneer sirius radio and the pioneer ipod adapter in the glove box. No pics yet as I am not quite done yet. Works great though.

here is my install

its on a belkin car charger under the console, and a AUX in to the HU. The base it styrofoam that i molded to fit in the cupholder and then covered with black vinyl. its nice because its easily viewable, you cant see any wires (a big pet peve of mine), and within reach.
Any questions lemme know

Glowin, commin to LA anytime soon? :]

i still use the stock HU and used an audiovox fm modulator. I used the belkin holder that fits in to the cup holder. Works really well, it acutally sits in the same place as Glowin97x's, but it is not custom.

glow that is HOT...maybe i will install my ipod after all...hmmmm *scratches head*

I'm really looking to stay away from cup holders. I would like to mount it on the dash, just to the side of the stero, so that my eyes don't have to go far to look at the screen.

As far was wires go. I don't like them either, but I'm expecting to have to see a little. The panel below the steering wheel, just above the driver's knees, pops out pretty easily. That gives plenty of access to fun the wire, have it come out, and under the steering wheel. I also saw someone on iPodLounge who basically popped the cig lighter out, and put the wire through that hole (I don't what to do that).

For the time being, until I figure out what I want to do.....I just have the wire running under the floor mat, under the seat, and then the ipod just sits on top of the arm rest. The silicon sleave works really well for keeping it from getting scratched and sliding.

there is a dock that some company makes that sticks out of the cig lighter and the ipod docks in. thats way its charging, next to the dash w/out wires, and it has an FM transmitter. I dont like FM transmitters thats why I went w/ hardwire, but it could be an option for you. Other than that id suggest a cellphone/pda mount like allready suggested

also now many companies make ipod adapters where you can hid the ipod in the console or glove box and controll it from the HU like a CD changer. I might have gone this way but they didnt exist when i installed mine 2 years ago.

That cigarette lighter thing is from DLO. I have one and it is the best FM modulaator Ive ever used. Its still FM though, thats why I upgraded to direct connect.

I had the DLO one...Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, that thing sucked so bad...it scratches the sides of your iPod, and the sound quality is worse than radio.

I had the DLO FM modulator / dock. That thing sucked! Horrible sound quality, big, bulky, ugly.

Most of my friends just put the ipod in the cup holder...
