Ok, I'm sure this has been covered and If I read long enough I might find the answer but really don't have the time.

I'm taking the 5.0 out of my 96 explorer and putting it in a car. I'm wondering is this a 351/302HO engine. I assume it is. Also since it was DIS will a typical distributor drop right back in? And it this a roller motor?

Thanks for any help,

Gerald

It is not an HO motor, it does have gt-40 heads, and what is basically a cast version of the gt-40 intake, but it has a truck cam not an HO cam. Yes you can put a distributor in it, and yes it is a roller motor. Another thing to be careful of with these motors is they use a different balance than the mustang motors. One is 28oz and one is 50oz, I always get them confused though.

Check the link below for more information...

And this 5.0 liter, just like any stock 5.0 liter/302 Ford engine from 1982, has the same 50 oz. balancer on it...The Explorer balancer just has the reluctor ring on it unlike the previous Mustang engines...And a distributor with the proper material drive gear will work just fine...

The 351 Windsor uses the 28 oz. balancer as well as some stroker kits...

So the explorer doesn't have a roller cam? Even the 95 up 302 trucks went to the 5.0ho/351 firing order of 13726548. Even if they come with flat tappet cams I would assume the block is at least roller cam ready?
And yes all 302 since 82 have have the 50oz balancer.

Thanks guys,

Gerald
