Is it worth it?

I didnt really know what forum to put this in, but i found a 5.0l 302 from a 1996 f150 for $150(mileage unknown) only problem is a knocking noice(probaly a bent push rod?), is it worth buying and putting it in my 98 ranger? thanks

In my opinion, valvetrain noise is bad news, and can be caused by a lot of things. I would, for sure, rebuild it if you choose to buy it. Also, in my opinion, I would search around for an engine with more information (mileage, overhaul info [if any], etc.).

As for the conversion, this can be done, but you will need to explore around this forum and be sure you know what you're getting into. From what I've read, you will need adapters, a short-neck water pump, electric fan kits, and lots of time, money, and patience. It can be done, just be sure you're up for it. I would consider finding a wrecked 5.0L V8 Explorer, as many parts will be useful to you since the chassis is similar.

You will be much better off with a 5.0 from either a Mustang or an Explorer. Since you have a '96, look for a '96 donor vehicle. The electronics will mate much easier.

For my conversion (in my '93), I went with a '94 Mustang engine - but I am going to wire it as a '93.
