ok i have a 02 xlt 4.0, and need to tow a 98 malibu. the trailervi will be using is dual axle and around 1500 lbs itself plus the cars weight, so thinking 5000 total weight. i have the big tow package from factory. will my x do it or should i source other means to tow

I believe 5000 lbs is the max rated tow capacity for the x. so you would be really close. I guess it depends on how far you need to go. personally I'd use a tow dolley to save all that weight of the trailer if you are going really far.
