on the front end of my ranger(i know...its not an ex, but really damn similar) it sounds like something is rattling around. when i jack it up everyhitng is tight and the wheel has no play.......but when i go over bumpy surfaces and i have my window down it sounds like a loose washer or something is smacking around near my front tires

also, my truck is a 2wd

CC Heat Shields loose?? Radius Arm Bushing?

Mine does the same thing and I'm about to the point of stapping my ass under there and haveing someone drive around, j/k but it pisses me off I cant find it.:fire:

if you find anything let me know. ive taken it to ford and another place...ive been stumped for about 7 months now

99% of the time it is the radius arm bushings. Do you notice it cluck when rolling slowly and applying and releasing the brakes? You may also need to replace the frame where the radius bushings and arm attach as it does wear over time. Take the nut, washer, and the back half of the bushing off the arm and look at the other half of the bushing and the frame. I have had to replace mine a couple of times now with 140K and need to replace another one again.

Loose tire weights?

jevin, what did you pay for them to be replaced?? also, did you do it yourself or pay someone else to do it??

I replaced the bushings myself. It takes some leverage to move the front axle far enough forward to move the radius arm bushing past the frame. The bushings cost about $15 each and the frame section if you need it is about $45 (if I remember correctly). Do check the frame out when changing bushings. If it is worn enough the new bushing will start to "bump" around when going over bumps or applying brakes.
