Is the speedometer on a 1991 Aerostar electric or mechanical? The speedometer in my 1991 AWD Aerostar shows fast. Like 5 mph over at 30 and below, and 10 mph over when you're doing 55 mph or more. It has stock size tires on it 205/75-14. What could be causing this?

Thanks.

Check the color of the gear on the end of the VSS, and then check my sticky thread in the transmission section on speedometer gears. It has a color code chart to calculate the tire size with the teeth of the gear.

Man you really know your stuff I hope you are still around.

My 93 AeroStar has a speedo that has a needle for speed and a looks like digital for mileage.....nether are working....is the speed a cable drive?

I saw the diagrams of taking apart the cluster but just would like to know how it functions?

Thanks for any answers....:)
