Hi there, so i've been trying to get to the bottom of this grinding sould I have, and recently i've pretty much done everything that needs to be done to the front end... it's not the bearings/hub, not the balljoints and the tires are new as well, and i just changed both the front and rear diff fluid, so could it be the front axle bearings, if there are such things?

I went through some pretty deep water and sand recently, it started after that, but as i said, everything else has been checked.

There are no "axle" bearings.

Have you checked for any rocks stuck in between the caliper and the rotor? Or for a bent backing plate rubbing the rotor?

Can you duplicate the noise with the vehicle on jack stands? This may help isolate the noise.

Does it only happen while turning?

Ahh, finally some responses - thanks!

Yes, it only happens when it's turning, it's actully slowly going away (i think - you know how it is with noises).

I still have no idea what it is though, it's quieter when i spin the tire by hand (when jacked up).

I changed the diff fluid today and it was certianly bad, sort of creamy and gray looking...could it be the actual diff?

My other thought is that i could be the brakes, though i don't know how and i would of thought that they would of taken off the brakes/calipers when they checked the bearing...
Or, it could still be the bearing, it's not loose, but i suppose that just because it's not loose, does't mean that it's not bad...

Thanks again.

WEll, this is funny, almost exactly 2 years later, andi have the same noises...to anyone who's reading this, it was my bearing...it's been 50K km and it's happening again, but with all the wheeling i do, i guess it's unavoidable, and i spend 0$ on my truck over the last 2 years....so i can't complain.
