Ok well I look at a lot of sites and it seems that the only exhaust system that will fit my 4.0L '01 Sport is the Gibson. I find this hard to believe... Is there anything I am missing? Will a Sport Trac's exhaust system fit?

Forget the prefabbed stuff, get to a custom exhaust shop and have done whatever you want, catback single out, catback dual out, catback side out.
Pipe is pipe, perf mufflers are the same

what he said  with a custom job your options are endless.

This Flowmaster kit looks like it would work. It includes the adapters for 2 or 4dr models. Its listed for '97-'98, but I don't see any differences between it and my '01. It also doesn't have a stainless or polished tip, but you can add one easily.

I got the Gibson cat-back and am pretty happy with it. I just wish it had a little lower tone.

Borla also makes a kit, but it's over $500.

Sport Trac won't fit. All of the pipes are longer and you'll end up custom fabbing all of them anyway.

Yea but it is cheaper?

hey man i bought a muffler of ebay and the tips i wanted off ebay.... that was about 60 bucks and then i took it to a shop and they put in new pipe and welded it up for me for like 50 bucks labor and i dont rember how much for the extra pipe but it turned out to be alot cheaper than to buy one...

99% of the time, a custom exhaust is cheaper than a packaged exhaust, and like said above, you get more options

Ok thats good news. Around how much are we talking about? (ballpark figure is fine) And should I do the same thing as ericradford01 did and buy the muffler and tips off of ebay? I wouldnt know what to buy. I know how I want it to sound but other than that, I dont know what to buy to make it sound that way....

get reviews of mufflers other people have used.
Although the most popular ones used are either Gibson, Magnaflow, and Flowmasters.
And ballpark figure? Couldn't tell ya, the amnt a shop charges you can vary a LOT (for example, my sister has been quoted between $350 and $700 for a dual exhaust on her truck)

Shop around. The closest shop to my house wanted 450 + tax for a dynomax custom cat-back system. I ended up paying 250 w/tax for a magnaflow cat-back system with slightly larger diamater piping at a place across town.

I personally love the magnaflow, but it really depends on what type of sound you're looking for.

You could definitely buy the stuff on ebay, but www.summitracing.com has great deals as well and they are much more reliable. My shop charged me 125 for an aluminized magnaflow muffler, and I just realized I could have gotten it much cheaper online. Just be certain you know the correct pipe diameters before you buy stuff online. ;)

Go with the MAC it is 3" and mandrel bent, good quality and a single will sound just as good as duals on you 6cyl. No a sport trac system won't work. But I will warn you this is a loud system. I have it on mine. The turbo quietened mine down, but n\a'd it was loud. :us: Here is a link http://www.macperformance.com/store/product1.cfm?SID=3&Product_ID=337
