Is this a good buy?

I am looking into a project vehicle for the teenager and wonder if there is anything I should know about.

I have located a 99 XLT with 123,000 miles that has been overheated (semmingly good condition otherwise). It looks like I can get it for $200. It seems like a good buy to me even if it requires an engine swap.

Is there anything special about a 99 4.0 and what other years (or VIN code) will swap? Thanks in advance.

for $200 i dont see how you could go wrong. worst case if you bought it, decided it was more trouble than its worth - sell it and make money. i know theres people out there that would pay that for it.

very worse case, take it to your nearest scrap yard and get your money back. last week the local yard here was paying only $5 per 100lbs. that should still net you close to the $200 tho.

I am going to buy it this weekend. I have found a 4.0 from a 1996. Will an engine from a 1996 fit? Will the heads work? Thanks.

There are 2 different 4.0's. The SOHC and the OHV... The VIN from your truck shows a SOHC engine, and the '96 has an OHV.
