Surfin craigslist, and I came up on this for just $500.

Ad:
my ford explorer recently died on me and i just dont have the time or patience to fix it.
i have recently (within a month) put $950.00 into it. i got it a new feul pump, filter and acouple other fuel things lol. im not exactly car savy.
but i think the transmission went out. it will shift into gear but acts like it is still in neutral. reving and such. just doesnt go anywhere.
the outside is in great condition just one dent on the side that is nothing major. and a crack in the windshield. the inside is also in great condition. just a little dash stuff that was taken out a long time ago to fix it that wasnt put back b/c i didnt have the money. but i still have all the pieces.
the tires are in great condition, good tread. automatic locks and windows.
i really liked this car, but just too much car for me. i need a little honda or something.
as of right now it would need to be towed unless somebody could fix it on the spot. or it would be great to sell for parts but i dont want to get that involved.

asking 500 obo. will consider any reasonable offer.
if you are interested you can call or text heath @ *******. and if i dont answer just leave me a message. thanks!

what year, and what engine?

its a 97, and Im trying to get aqhold of him for the other specs...

It seems like the advertiser can't really tell you whats wrong with the trans. It would be nice if Just the shifter linkage popped off. It could be a torque converter related issue.

If it were a otherwise immaculate vehicle I would buy it but if is going to end up costing $3,000 then I would buy something a little more cherry.

I was thinking it has to do with the shift linkage...
Right now I have a 94 xlt that is my daily driver, and Im just looking for another car that I can either make my wheelin project, or my daily driver so I can make my 94 my project.

If turning wrenches is a hobby and part of sanity for you then all you would be looking at is the cost of parts. I would still have concerns about the condition of the rest of the vehicle because you want that work to go into something that you can enjoy for a few years.

I wouldn't put my time into anything that has trashed interior or needing thousands of other money soaking issues because that takes all the fun right out of it.

I bought my first, first generation Ex for $700 and all that was wrong with it was that it had an inside the tank gas leak (bad sending unit). Nice!
