Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but here's my story:

I was driving my 98 Sport on a dirt road earlier today at a pretty reasonable speed (30-35 mph). Well, I hit some potholes on the otherwise smooth road and the back end of the truck swung around into the other lane. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I've never owned anything other than sports cars before, so I have no idea if this is normal behavior for a truck or not. Either way, I'm a little concerned about driving on anything other than smooth, paved roads (what few of them we have in PA).

Probably what happened is that when the tires got back onto the dirt it acted like water and the tires lost traction and kicked the end out.

Pretty normal for driving a rear drive truck on a low traction road.

Nothing strange about it. You came across some loose dirt and lost traction. Once I had my X in Cruise Control and hit some lose dirt and almost did a 180 degree spin.

id maybe look into a more aggresive tire or go slower..only things i can suggest

Yeah, I would need clean underwear after that !!!

yeah its normal. The best thing you can do is just get used to your expo...as i'm sure you know...it's aint a sports car :p. I drive on dirt/gravel roads all the time...at 55mph+ and don't have a problem with it, but you have to be very aware of the road...and really look ahead for bumps :). Another thing that might help is if your shocks are wore to replace them.

later
CP :D

I have a 98 AWD XLT and everytime I hit bumps, the back end goes all over the place. I recently changed my shocks, but I'm finding that these 'trucks' ride like trucks so you'll just have to get used to it.
